Bernard S. O'Hawk

Bernard Stephen O’Hawk of Catasauqua, born on March 10, 1945, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 81.

A kind, supportive, and loving man, Bernard devoted his life to his wife, children, and grandchildren. In high school he was known for his athleticism on the football field. After graduating from Catasauqua High School in 1963, he served in the Navy, often recalling his time stationed in Hawaii and Alaska. He then spent 41 years as a mail carrier in Catasauqua, where he was affectionately known around town as “Cookie,” while also working part-time overnight at Bethlehem Steel. He was a longtime member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Catasauqua.

Bernard was preceded in death by his father, Stephen, his mother, Grace (Eardley), his daughter Tracy Mertz, and his beloved wife, Diane (Kennedy), who passed just four days before him. He is survived by his daughters Kristina Petruno (Daniel) and Elizabeth Freer (Kenneth), and his grandchildren Molly, Kenneth, Alexander, Everett, and Kaiden, who will miss him dearly.
