Bernadette M. Dehn, age 96 of Dayton, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Born on February 13, 1930 to Alphonse and Emily Zachman in St. Michael, Minnesota, she grew up on the family farm as the middle daughter of ten siblings.
Bernie worked hard from a young age, helping with household chores on the farm and later taking jobs in Minneapolis at Munsingwear and Honeywell. She met her husband, Jim, at the Anoka Halloween Parade, and they married in 1955. Together for 68 years, they raised one daughter and began their life farming in Dayton. Bernie cherished the life she had always dreamed of, tending expansive gardens of vegetables and flowers that she generously shared with others. An excellent cook, baker, and canner, she ensured nothing went to waste. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed reading and watching educational television, always eager to learn. After retirement, she and Jim traveled across the United States. Though reserved by nature, she treasured family gatherings and reunions, and she delighted in playing games with her great-granddaughters. Her upbeat spirit, ready smile, and absence of complaint reflected a deep enjoyment of life. Her faith remained foremost, and she lived to serve God and others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; grandson, Nathan Rogahn; parents, Alphonse and Emily Zachman; and brothers, Fr. Emmett Zachman O.S.C., Bro. Vernon Zachman (White Fathers), Donald Zachman, Elroy Zachman, Elmer Zachman, and Joe Zachman.
Bernadette is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Doug) Rogahn; grandchildren, Dan Rogahn and Kim (Wayne) Crittenden; great-grandchildren, Talena and Athena Crittenden; and siblings, Irene Mahoney, Eddie (Mary) Zachman, Mary Ann Rinkel, and Harry Zachman.
