Bernadette Kastendieck

Bernadette Kastendieck, a lifelong resident of Grants, New Mexico, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 17, 1942, in Grants, she spent her entire life in the community she loved, touching many through her warmth, sense of style, and boundless generosity.

After graduating from high school, Bernadette began her career with the Cibola County Schools, where she dedicated 40 years of service. It was there that she met the love of her life, Dwight Kastendieck. They married on June 28, 1974, and shared 51 cherished years together, creating a home filled with love and laughter while raising their sons, Kurt and Derek.

Her deep and steadfast faith in God remained a constant source of strength throughout her life. Known for her impeccable fashion sense and radiant presence, Bernadette brought elegance and kindness wherever she went. She found her greatest joy in her family, especially her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Dwight Kastendieck; her sons, Dr. Kurt Kastendieck and his wife Rey, and Derek Kastendieck and his wife Sarah; and her beloved grandchildren, Holly Kastendieck, Luke (Bianca) Kastendieck, Julie Kastendieck, and Mayzi Alvarez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Rosita Garcia, and her sister, Angela Sanchez.
