Berdean “Dean” Mahoney, 87, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on November 10, 1938, in Anderson, Indiana, he was the son of the late Perry Mahoney and Fannie Smith Mahoney.

Dean cherished his family above all and found great joy in his many hobbies. He loved playing softball and bowling, and he never missed an opportunity to watch football and cheer for his favorite teams. Known affectionately as the self-proclaimed “Indiana Wannabe Cowboy,” he held a lifelong passion for westerns and all things cowboy, a trait that reflected his distinctive character and endeared him to everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Linda Mahoney; his children, Michael Mahoney, Jimmie Mahoney, Kenneth (Kathy) Mahoney, and Alan (Ginny) Mahoney; his brother, Larry Mahoney; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Penney Mahoney, and his sister-in-law, B.B. Mahoney, in addition to his parents.
