Benjamin David Atwood

Benjamin David Atwood, age 50, of Old Fort, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at his home. He was the son of David Ray and Lane Carpenter Atwood.

Benjamin found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He cherished early mornings fishing, quiet hours hunting in the woods, hiking his favorite trails, and spending time on the water skiing or simply relaxing in the sun. Music brought him constant delight, and a good song could always bring a smile to his face. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a joyful spirit that lifted everyone around him. Above all, he loved his family. They were the center of his world, and he took immense pride in them. Known for his generous heart, he was always the first to help someone in need.

He will be remembered for his love of life, his kindness, and the many memories he created with family and friends. His laughter, adventurous spirit, and warm presence will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Beth Parker Atwood of Old Fort, North Carolina; his daughter, Kennedy Atwood of Spruce Pine, North Carolina; his sons, Kasey and Kaleb Atwood of Spruce Pine, North Carolina; grandsons Colten Atwood and Seth Taylor; granddaughter Averie Taylor; great-grandchildren Maggie and Addie Taylor; and sisters Tracy Burleson and Kimberly Atwood.
