Barrie Hoytt ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Click Funeral Home - Farragut Chapel on Mar. 16, 2026.Barrie Melroy Hoytt (1943 - 2026) was born, much to his surprise, a poor Jewish child in Chicago, Illinois. At 18 he opted to serve in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War because A) he liked their uniforms the best and B) to break away from the family business (true story). He took over the family business soon after his honorable discharge from the military, building a successful and beloved Doberman empire in Dandridge, Tennessee. He loved his dobermans. He knew all the personalities and pedigrees by heart, he remembered every name of the hundreds of dobes he trained and placed, and could identify a dobe from 20 years ago from a picture alone. Good thing too. He struggled most of his life with computers, never finding the "any" key that he was so often asked to press in the early days. Later this was replaced by his struggle to find a "Windows" key. No one could hunt and peck a keyboard like Barrie. His inability to find the right word in any given situation was solved by his superhuman knack for coming up with apt and original analogies on the fly. This would be the perfect place for the writer to describe this superpower using an analogy. Sadly it skips a generation. He often owned many copies of the same van. No one knows why. If he had a love for anything, it was pastrami and full-sized vans with misspelled signage. "Doberman Transportor" was a fan-favorite.Barrie passed away peacefully with his son by his side on March 14th, still believing he was the only one in the audience in 2005 who realized Star Wars episode 3 was actually a prequel. Barrie requested no funeral but to be cremated and taken on one last fishing trip with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac Hoytt and Rozlyn Stelzer. He is survived by his son, Heath Hoytt (Jen) of Farragut, his grandson Harrison Hoytt of Reston, Virginia, and granddaughter Elle Hoytt of Farragut. He also leaves behind a note to the government that says "suck it, IRS". Barrie died a Christian so he means that with love.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
