Barbara "Barb" Smith

Barbara Smith, known affectionately as Barb, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Maquoketa, Iowa, at the age of 79 after a courageous battle with progressive dementia. Born on July 6, 1946, to Bart and Doris Crimmins, Barb grew up surrounded by family and carried a spirit of kindness, positivity, and resilience throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bart and Doris Crimmins, and her brother, Mike Crimmins. Barb is survived by her children, Jane (Wayne) Krause, Terri (Greg Conger) Weber, Christie (Mark) Meinholz, and Shane (Ann) Weber; ten grandchildren, Lindsey, Jaley, Taya, Mila, Dante, Jacob, Justin, Jayln, Jeremy, and Zachary; two great-grandchildren, Eliana and Noah; her sisters, Jan Schafer and Linda Nachtmann; and many nieces and nephews.

Barb found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including spending time with friends, camping, playing cards, and sewing. Known for her happy and positive spirit and her deep faith in God, she had a remarkable gift for finding the bright side of any situation. Even in challenging moments, such as getting lost in the woods at night, she could transform the experience into an adventure and a lasting memory for her children.

Her warmth, laughter, and ability to find joy in everyday moments will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Barb’s family will forever cherish the memories she created and the love she shared throughout her life.
