Barbara "Joanie" Portillo

Barbara Joan “Joanie” Portillo, age 87, of Linden, passed away on March 11, 2026.

Born on January 29, 1939, in Ithaca, New York, Joanie was the daughter of William Hart and Edna Whipple Hart. She graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School and later worked for many years at Douglas Aircraft before becoming a seamstress in the space industry. Joanie had a deep love for gardening and dancing. She took great pride in caring for her home, decorating it with care, and was known for her remarkable handiness.

In 1985, she married Crespin P. Portillo in Orange County, California. The couple shared 41 years of marriage and 51 years together as partners.

Joanie is survived by her husband, Crespin; her children, Edward Stuteville, Becky Worrell, Maurra Bauch, and Keta Caustrita; grandchildren Shane, Shawn, Shannon, Kristen, Katelyn, and Kirkland Stuteville, Chanse Worrell, and Garrett Worrell; great-grandchildren Sol Fernandez, Leia Worrell, and James Renner; her sister, Linda Layton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Debra Weller; an infant daughter, Pamela; her son Crespin Portillo; and her brothers David Hart and Arthur Hart.
