Barbara Laura (Viau) Dennis

Barbara Laura (Viau) Dennis, affectionately known as “Barbie” or “Babs,” was born on April 16, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Lionel and Florence Viau. She grew up with her sister Sandra (Sandy) and her brother Ralph (Phyllis), graduating from Redford Union High School where she formed lifelong friendships.

She was the devoted mother of two daughters, Amy Elizabeth and Jennifer Nichole. Her son, Steven Michael, preceded her in death as an infant. Barbie later became the proud grandmother of Marina Tagen, attending all of her volleyball games and traveling across the country as her biggest and most enthusiastic supporter.

Known for her fabulous style and her beloved brown Firebird, Barbie worked in the food and beverage industry where she earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Meticulous, charming, and a natural conversationalist, she had a gift for connecting with people. She raised her daughters on her own, often working two jobs while maintaining a home, yard, and garden that brought her great pride. She found constant support in her devoted friends, family, and neighbors.

In her retirement years, Babs cherished time spent with loved ones, whether on shopping trips, road trips, or casual gatherings. She adored her sons-in-law, Chris Gordon and Joshua Blue, and took comfort in knowing both of her daughters were happily married to good men. A lifelong animal lover, she was known for sneaking treats to every pet she met. Full of energy and always on the go, she lived with warmth, generosity, and an enduring spirit.

Babs passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by her daughters and granddaughter. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
