Austin, MN
Barbara Kay Hylle, age 71, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home with family by her side after a short battle with cancer. Born on October 13, 1954, in Austin, the daughter of Bernard and Doris Hylle, Barb grew up in her hometown and graduated from Austin High School in 1973. She went on to attend Golden Valley Lutheran College and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, later completing advanced degrees in Long Term Care. She built a distinguished career in nursing, most recently serving as Director of Nursing for the Benedictine Living Community of Minneapolis, and was honored as Nurse Administrator of the Year in 2005 by the Minnesota Director of Nursing Association.
Barb found great joy outside of work in the company of family. She cherished fishing trips to Whitefish Lake, attending dog trials with her sister, traveling to Yellowstone National Park, and taking vacations out west with her sister. She remained close to her siblings, nieces, nephew, cousins, and many coworkers and friends, who filled her final days with visits and care.
She is survived by her brother, Paul Hylle of Grand Meadow; sister, Denise Hylle of Sheridan, Wyoming; brother, John (Melody) Hylle of Owatonna; nephew, Sam Hylle and his fiancée, Gigi Behun, of New Brighton; and nieces, Lauren Hylle of St. Louis Park, and Audrey Hylle of Minneapolis. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Doris.
