Weymouth, MA

Barbara Jean (Budrick) Thompson, of Weymouth, died peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham. She was 79.

Barbara was born in Quincy on January 24, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Casper Joseph and Edith Alberta (Jones) Budrick. She was raised in West Quincy, then Quincy Center, attended local schools, and graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1964.

Barbara first met her husband while bowling at the Wonder Bowl in Quincy. The couple were married on May 18, 1974, at the First Congregational Church in Braintree. Years later, reaffirming their love, they renewed their vows in a ceremony at St. John the Baptist Church in Quincy.

Barbara valued learning and pursued her education at Northeastern University, where she earned her associate’s degree. She went on to dedicate her career to caring for others as a microbiology laboratory technician at Quincy City Hospital, where she worked faithfully until her retirement at the age of 70 in 2017.

By nature, Barbara was a soft, mellow soul. She had a gentle way about her that made people feel at ease, and those who knew her remember her as a loving and caring person whose warmth was constant and sincere.

Barbara found great joy in travel and adventure, especially when it meant sharing experiences with her family. She loved warm places and over the years visited nearly all fifty states. When her children were young, she and her family even drove across the country together, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Camping was another cherished tradition with her family.

A devoted reader, Barbara almost always had a book in her hand. Romance novels were her favorite, and if she found even a quiet moment during the day, she could often be found opening a book and disappearing into a love story.

Barbara was also a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Mineral Club, Inc., participating in gatherings in Norwell, Bridgewater, and Rockland. Through the club she connected with many people, creating new friendships and rekindling old ones too.

Family was always at the center of Barbara’s life. When her daughter was young, she proudly served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Along with being a den mother for her son’s cub scout troupe. She also loved to volunteer at her grandchildren’s schools. Helping guide and encourage the next generation with the same kindness she showed everyone.

Barbara appreciated beauty in simple forms. Her favorite flowers were carnations and roses, especially carnations. Her husband often brought her soft pink flowers, saying they reminded him of her.

Barbara was the beloved wife of Loren A. Thompson, with whom she shared 52 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Jeffrey Thompson and his wife Jill-Marie of Weymouth, and Jeanine Waterman and her husband Michael of Hanover. Barbara was the loving grandmother of Jordan Duggan of Weymouth, Keira Thompson of Weymouth, Allison, Mia, and Ryan Waterman, all of Hanover. She was the dear sister of Nancy MacLeod and her late husband Richard of Abington, Mary O’Brien and her late husband Kevin of Quincy, Joseph Budrick and his wife Kathie of Rockland, Frances Hard of Weymouth, and the late Robert Budrick formerly of Milford, New Hampshire. Barbara is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 3-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday, March 16, 2026, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Cremation will follow.

Barbara will be interred privately in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
