November 23, 1946— March 15, 2026
Amarillo, TX
Barbara Jean Murray, lovingly known as “Grannie,” was born November 23, 1946, in Clovis, New Mexico, and passed away peacefully at her home in Amarillo, Texas, on March 15, 2026, at the age of 79.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 20, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM (MST), at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery in Tucumcari, NM. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Barbara was the daughter of Charlie and Viola White and was raised in Tucumcari, New Mexico, alongside her siblings, Ben White and Charlene Vinson. She graduated from Tucumcari High School and carried the small-town values of faith, loyalty, and family with her throughout her life.
On August 4, 1967, she married George Murray. Together they built a life centered on love and perseverance. In January 1970, they welcomed their only child, their daughter, Georgiana Lynn Murray, who was the center of Barbara’s world.
Barbara had a creative spirit and found joy in making things with her hands. She loved crafting and creating thoughtful gifts and faithfully sending cards for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. Through these simple but meaningful gestures, she had a beautiful way of making people feel remembered and loved.
Her greatest joy was always her family. To her grandchildren, Makayla Tipton and Colton Reed, she was simply “Grannie,” a constant and loving presence who never missed an activity, event, or game. She offered gentle guidance, listened without judgment, and created a place where the people she loved always felt safe.
Barbara cherished family traditions and took great pride in passing them down to her grandchildren, making sure the things that meant so much to her would live on through them. In many ways, she was the steady thread that kept her family closely woven together.
In her final year, her great-grandson, Miles Tipton, became the apple of her eye and brought her tremendous joy. She also looked forward with excitement to the arrival of another great-grandchild, Sage Reed, whom she loved even before meeting. When speaking to Miles, Makayla lovingly referred to her as “Patty Cake,” a nickname that grew from the sweet moments they shared playing patty-cake together.
Barbara is reunited in peace with her daughter, Georgiana Lynn Murray Reed; her parents, Charlie and Viola White; and others she loved who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, George Murray; her grandchildren, Makayla Tipton and husband Joe Tipton, and Colton Reed and wife Emily Reed; her great-grandchildren, Miles Tipton and Sage Reed; her siblings, Ben White and wife Ellen White, and Charlene Vinson and husband Bobby Vinson; along with several nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s life was defined by quiet faith, creativity, kindness, and a deep love for her family. The traditions she cherished and faithfully passed down will continue to live on through the family she held so close to her heart.
Her love will live on in the traditions she passed down and in the family who will carry them forward.
