Barbara J. Thomas, 72, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT, after a long and courageous battle with blood cancer. She was born on April 7, 1953, in Kingston, NY, daughter of the late James V. and Rita (Bodenweber) Geary. She was married to her loving husband of 50 years, Ronald J. Thomas, Sr. They were married at St. Mary’s RC Church in Kingston on July 26, 1976.
Barbara was a graduate of John A. Coleman Catholic High School and later Dutchess County Community College where she received her Associate’s Degree. She later worked as a legal secretary for Lou Klein in Kingston and New York State Supreme Court Judge James Gilpatric.
While her children were growing up, she was involved with many school fundraisers, sports, and whatever else her children participated in. Barbara loved the ocean, especially visiting Long Beach, Long Island, but above all she was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. As Barbara would say, “They are my heart”.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Thomas, Sr. of Kingston, her children, RJ Thomas and his wife Jaime of Wolcott, CT, Alison Tobar and her husband Victor of Kingston, she was “MeMe” to her beloved granddaughters, Siena and Olivia Thomas. She is also survived by her siblings, Paul Geary of Kingston, Elizabeth "Betsy" Geary of Port Ewen and Mark Geary of Kingston, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong cherished friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Friday March 20, 2026, from 4pm to 7pm with a prayer service taking place at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Immaculate Conception RC Church, 467 Delaware Ave., Kingston, NY 12401.
