Schwind (Lass), age 88, a longtime resident of Evanston, Lake Villa, and Fox Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 13, 2026 in Ringwood, Illinois. Barb was born on Sunday, April 18, 1937, to Edward and Dorothy (Thuerk) Lass. She graduated from Evanston Township High School with the Class of 1955. On September 13, 1958, she married her beloved husband, Martin Schwind, Jr. Together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage while raising their four children, before his passing in 2001.Barb was very active in the communities where she lived throughout the years. While residing in Evanston, one of her proud accomplishments was serving on the Board of Directors during the development and construction of the Robert Crown Community Center in Evanston. Together, Barb and Marty owned and operated Marty Schwind & Sons Greenhouses with locations in Evanston and Lake Villa, where they shared their love of plants and gardening with the community. She was a long-time member of the Antioch Garden Club, where her love of horticulture helped bring environmental beauty not only to the community but also to her own home and gardens. Barb and Marty enjoyed traveling and in their younger years bowled in a league together. She wa s a very active member of her own place of worship, Beautiful Savior Church in Antioch. Barb took great joy in gardening, baking, cooking, sewing and she had a wonderful artistic flair when it came to drawing and creative projects. Beyond her crafts she was an avid Mickey Mouse enthusiast with a cherished collection to prove it. Above all else, Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who cherished her family beyond measure. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and will be loved and remembered always.Survived by brother, Wayne (Barbara) Lass; daughter, Jean (Russ) Farrar; sons, Mark (Leslie), Edward Schwind; grandchildren, Ashley (Carl) Williams, Whitney (Zach) Sroga, Lyndsey (David) McDow, Emilie Schwind; great-grandchildren, Dominick, Rosalie, Hazel, Natalia, Cannon, Charlotte, Eleni, baby Sroga(due Spring 2026); along with many nieces and nephews.Preceded by her parents, Dorothy and Edward Lass; husband, Martin Schwind, Jr.; son, Thomas Schwind; sisters, Marjorie DeRose, and Shirley Hamilton.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL.Interment will take place immediately following the Celebration of Life Service at Hillside Cemetery, Antioch, IL.The family kindly requests that memorial donations in Barbara's memory be made to the Dementia Society athttps://www.dementiasociety.orgFor additional information please call the funeral home at 815-675-0550.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
