Barbara Harris Adams
September 23, 1940— March 11, 2026
Bogalusa, LA
Barbara Harris Adams, a longtime resident of Bogalusa, Louisiana, was born on September 23, 1940, in Asheville, North Carolina, and passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at her home at the age of 85, surrounded by those she loved.
Barbara dedicated many years to the Bogalusa City School System, where she helped countless children learn to read, write, and comprehend. The relationships she built with students, teachers, and colleagues endured for decades, with many of them remaining in touch with her until the very end. Her favorite among them was Wendy Perrette. Her heart was especially drawn to children, and she was lovingly known as “Mom,” “Mamaw,” “Meems,” or “Babs” to many, embracing each name with pride.
She will be remembered for her lifelong love of the color mauve, which she wore faithfully on her nails and lips, and for her enthusiastic collection of shoes. Above all, she made a profound and lasting impact on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Joseph Clayton “J.C.” Adams of Bogalusa, Louisiana; her son, Paul Harris Jr. of Bogalusa; grandchildren Cara Keating (Kenny) of Laplace, Louisiana, Sarah Harris Kimble (Glen) of Holden, Louisiana, Katlyn Harris Pierce (Michael) of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, Shari Harris Hutson (J) of Pearl River, Louisiana, and Wade Cancienne (Megan) of Paulina, Louisiana; great-grandchildren Kolby Keating, Maleigh and Nathan Kimble, Braylen Pierce, Lauralye Pierce, Ella Kate Pierce, Brittany Hutson, Brandi Garza (A.J.), Riley Hutson, Avery Hutson, Kevin Green, Timothy Creel, Ace Anthony Cancienne, Austin Anthony Cancienne, and Addie Cancienne; great-great-grandchildren Joseph Garza and Roman Garza; and brother-in-law Wayne “Shorty” Adams (Ann) of Bogalusa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul B. Harris Sr.; her parents, Earl and Mildred Morton; her daughter, Karen Harris Cancienne; her son, Charles “Charlie” Harris; her brother, Charles S. Morton; her daughter-in-law, Jan Griffin Harris; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
