Barbara D. "Barb" Veckey

Barbara D. Veckey, née Sweeney, of Volo, Illinois, passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 75 following a short battle with lung cancer.

Born in Portland, Oregon, on November 26, 1950, to Donald and Margaret Sweeney (née McKillop), Barb was known for her deep affection for elephants and her beloved cats, as well as her steadfast dedication to her family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Dawn (Scott) Alderman, Anthony Veckey, and Scott (Tesha) Veckey; and by her siblings, Dr. Christie Sweeney, Col. T. Bruce Sweeney, and Rev. David Sweeney. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A cremation has taken place per her wishes, with a celebration of her life to be held at a later date. In keeping with her generous spirit, memorial contributions may be made to the Addus Hope Foundation (Journey Care Hospice) or the ASPCA in her name.
