Barbara Ann Thomas

September 19, 1946 March 5, 2026

Chesapeake, VA

Barbara Ann Thomas, affectionately known as “Memommy” to her beloved granddaughters, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 79. Born on September 19, 1946, in Chesapeake, Virginia, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life centered on faith, family, and creative expression.

She shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, Charles G. “Redaddy” Thomas, and together they created a warm and welcoming home for their daughter, Cassandra “Cassie” Carlson Haggerty, and their cherished granddaughters, Melanie and Kelley. An artist at heart, Barbara found great joy in arts, crafts, and sewing, generously sharing her handmade gifts with those she loved. She also enjoyed bowling in both mixed and ladies leagues and cherished summer days spent by the pool with family and friends.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A longtime member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, she was baptized alongside Charles on September 19, 1976, and expressed her devotion through singing in the chancel choir and the Hallelujah Singers. Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering support touched everyone who knew her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Charles, who passed away on August 6, 2022, and by her parents, Myrtle Inez Turner and Charles Wilson Turner. She is survived by her loving daughter Cassandra “Cassie” Carlson Haggerty and husband David of Chesterfield County, Virginia, and her treasured granddaughters Melanie Campbell and husband Christopher of Chesterfield County, and Kelley Carlson of Henrico County, Virginia.
