Barbara J. Anderson, 83, of Columbus Junction, passed from this life on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube Pages. Burial will follow at the Frytown Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:45 AM at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established.
Barbara Joan (Smith) Anderson was born November 18, 1942, in Haxton, Colorado, the daughter of Lloyd and Iva Viola (Young) Smith. She was united in marriage to Joseph Anderson on March 26, 1961, in Paoli, Colorado. Barb was a member of the Frytown Church of Christ where she loved to teach Sunday school and sing. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, puzzles, bird watching, reading and babysitting, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include three children: Philip Anderson of Washington, Iowa, Brenda Anderson of Longmont, Colorado, Judith (Robert) Sedlacek of Columbus Junction, Iowa; two grandchildren: Ashlee Noelle Reese and Matthew Robert “Bobby” (Lizeth) Reese; two great-grandchildren: Kinnick Schultz and Jaxson Reese, and two sisters: Virginia Etl of California and Beverly Hembry of Yuma, Colorado.
Preceding Barb in death were her parents, her husband Joseph, her daughter Debbie Plourd, her sister Jean Freer and brother Bill Smith.
