Indianapolis, IN

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara A. Neice, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and teacher, who left us on March 6, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on November 13, 1950, in Terre Haute, to her parents Joseph Simon and Maxine Ella (Carpenter) Maher, Barbara lived a life filled with love, dedication, and compassion. She married Walter R. Neice on September 25, 1982 and the two spent nearly 44 beautiful years together.A proud graduate of West Vigo High School in 1968, Barbara's thirst for knowledge led her to earn both her Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University and her Master's degree from Butler University. For 37 cherished years, she devoted herself to the education of children as a Special Education Teacher with Indianapolis Public Schools, touching the lives of countless students and families throughout her career before her retirement. Her commitment to her students extended well beyond the classroom; she believed in their potential and fostered an environment of encouragement and growth.Barbara's passions extended into her personal life, where she found joy in gardening, reading, and traveling with her beloved husband, Walter. However, her greatest joy was in spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Jace, whose laughter brought light to her life. Barbara will be remembered for her warm spirit, her infectious laugh, and her unwavering love for her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, Walter R. Neice, and her daughter, Brandy Neice (Christopher Cheek), both of Indianapolis. She is also survived by her cherished grandson, Jace Cecil, and her siblings: Patricia Kane (Robert) of West Terre Haute, Nancy Moore (Thomas) of Terre Haute, and Ronald Maher (Lou Ann Higgins) of Terre Haute.Barbara is preceded in death by both of her parents, whose love and guidance shaped the remarkable person she became.Barbara's cremation was entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. As we say goodbye to Barbara, let us remember her kindness, her love, and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will forever inspire and guide us.To send a condolence or to share a story about Barbara, please visit: www.jonesfamilymortuary.com
