Augustine "Gus" Aguilar

Augustine “Gus” Aguilar, 87, of Monessen, passed away on March 13, 2026, at UPMC Washington Hospital. Born on May 11, 1938, to the late Agustin and Margaret (Repa) Aguilar, Gus spent his working life as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in California. A longtime member of Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, he was known for his remarkable self-reliance and ingenuity. A natural handyman, Gus could repair or build nearly anything; when he encountered something unfamiliar, he simply picked up a book and taught himself.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita Ann (Lastoka) Aguilar; his brother, Xavier (Barbara) Aguilar of Donora; his sister-in-law, Karen Aguilar; and his dear friend and helper, Chris Henry. In addition to his parents, Gus was preceded in death by his brother, Reynoldo Aguilar.

Gus will be remembered for his quiet competence, steadfast character, and the devoted love he shared with Rita and his family.
