Audrey Singpiel ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Care - Cloquet on Mar. 10, 2026.Audrey Frances (Hella) Singpiel, age 87, of Cloquet, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in her home at Diamond Willow Assisted Living and Memory Care. She was born on October 4, 1938, in Cloquet, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Kauno "Bud" and Frances (Brenny) Hella. Audrey graduated from Cloquet High School in 1956. On June 20, 1959, Audrey was united in marriage with Wayne Francis Singpiel, at St. Casimir's Catholic Church in Cloquet. Together they were blessed with two sons, Robert "Bob" Wayne Singpiel and William "Bill" James Singpiel. They owned and operated the Golden Gate Motel in Scanlon, Minnesota, for twenty-one years, retiring in 1997. In retirement, Audrey volunteered at the Community Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. She also enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, dancing, sewing, embroidering, cooking, and keeping house.Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Singpiel; her son, William Singpiel; her brother, James "Jim" Hella; Wayne's parents, Francis "Dutch" Singpiel and Mae (Singpiel) Panger; her brothers-in-law, David "Dave" Mattinen, Myron Perttula and Richard "Dick" Singpiel; and sister-in-law, Mavis Singpiel. She is survived by her son, Robert Singpiel; her grandchildren, Jenna (Ian) Peterson and Derek Singpiel; her great-grandchild, William Singpiel; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Singpiel; her sisters, Bev Stevens and Arlene Mattinen; her sisters-in-law, Sharel Hella and Carol Perttula; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.The family of Audrey would like to express their gratitude and thanks to both the caring staff at Diamond Willow Assisted Living and Memory Care in Cloquet and the compassion of the St. Croix Hospice staff.Funeral Service for Audrey will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, Minnesota.
