Assunta "Sue" Messier

Assunta "Sue" Messier

Springfield, MA

Assunta “Sue” Messier, 76, of Springfield, passed away on March 11, 2026, at her home. Born in Springfield on May 11, 1949, the daughter of the late Filippo and Carmela Ieraci, Sue graduated from Commerce High School with the Class of 1967.

For 42 years she worked at CVS Pharmacy on Belmont Avenue, where for 35 of those years she managed the card department and became affectionately known to many as “Sue the card lady.” Upon her retirement, she was honored with a special proclamation from Mayor Domenic J. Sarno declaring March 5, 2024, as “Assunta ‘Sue’ Messier Day” in the City of Springfield.

Sue was an avid reader who loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family and creating beautiful needlepoint pieces. She looked forward to her Monday coffee gatherings and Wednesday Italian classes at the East Longmeadow Senior Center. Above all, her family remained the center of her world.

She leaves her beloved husband of 53 years, Louis O. Messier, Jr.; her devoted children, Jeffrey Messier and his husband Abel, Jennifer Ferri and her husband Matthew, and Stephanie Lapierre and her husband Marc; her cherished grandchildren, Katherine, Sydney, Carmela, Zoe, and Penelope; her sister, Maria Baggetta and her husband Vince; her sister-in-law, Rose Ieraci; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Ieraci.
