Indianapolis, IN

Ashley Renee Day, age 39, of Indianapolis, Indiana, transitioned peacefully on March 2, 2026.

Ashley Renee Day was born on February 23, 1987, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Sophia Coleman and Danny McCray. She was raised on the Eastside of Indianapolis in her family’s generational home on North Arlington, a place filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ashley graduated from Lawrence North High School, Class of 2005.

Ashley was a devoted wife and mother who deeply cherished her family and the time spent with those she loved most. Known affectionately as “Ms. Sunshine,” Ashley had an unforgettable smile and a vibrant personality that could light up any room she entered. To those who truly knew and loved her, Ashley was not only the sunshine of the family but also one of its quiet backbones, bringing people together, offering encouragement, and showing up with a generous and hospitable heart.

She never met a stranger and had a natural ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and celebrated. Ashley loved hosting family and friends, often bringing people together through themed gatherings filled with laughter, dancing, and joy. She had a passion for hair, beauty, and fashion, and found great joy in helping others feel confident and beautiful. Ashley was known for uplifting those around her, often reminding others just how “dope” they truly were. Friendly, charismatic, naturally beautiful, and full of life, Ashley’s presence left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.

Ashley leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her love and memory. She is survived by her devoted husband, Vernon J. Day, and her beloved son, Jayln J. Day. Ashley is also lovingly remembered by her parents, Sophia Coleman and Danny McCray, and her siblings, Maurice Burns and Danielle Burks. She was a proud and loving aunt to her niece, Makayla Burns, and nephews, Kaleb Burns and Dallas Burks, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Ashley was preceded in death by her grandparents, Admiral Wilton Coleman, Bernice McCray, Laverna “Barbara” Jolly-Pieper, and Michael H. Pieper Sr.

Though our hearts mourn her absence, we take comfort in knowing that Ashley’s life and love will never be in vain. Her legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched along the way. As we grieve, we stand firm in faith, holding close to the promise found in Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” In that truth, we trust that Ashley now rests in eternal peace, embraced by God’s everlasting love.
