Asa Meche

Asa Meche, 86, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Asa possessed a quiet strength and steady presence that anchored his family. A man of few words, he expressed his love through daily acts of care and devotion, leaving a deep and lasting impression on all who knew him.

Asa proudly served his country in the US Army as a young man. He later served the Lake Charles community for 24 years with the Fire Department. In his free time, he found joy and peace in his woodworking shop, where he crafted beautiful pieces that will be treasured by his family for years to come.

He was a warm and social soul who never met a stranger. Mornings often found him at the local barber shop, brewing coffee and sharing easy conversation with friends. He cherished life’s simple routines and the people who filled them. Above all, he treasured traveling the open road in his motor home with his wife and best friend, Mary Lois Trahan Meche, and he adored every moment spent with his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lois Trahan Meche; his son, Michael Meche (Stephanie); his three grandchildren, Dylan Meche, Tyler Meche (Allison), and Maddison Meche; and his brother, Kenneth Meche. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Meche and Gracie Downs Meche, and his son, Dr. Thomas Meche.

Asa will be remembered as a quiet, strong, and steady man whose love ran deep and whose presence will be greatly missed.
