Arturo Muñoz

April 22, 1953 March 10, 2026

El Paso, TX

Arturo Muñoz, 72, lovingly known as “Muskie,” entered into eternal rest on March 10, 2026 in El Paso, TX. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.

It can be said that Muskie never met a stranger. He quickly befriended everyone he met and he had a way of making each person feel special. Muskie loved with all his heart and was not afraid to show it. He was genuine and always had a beautiful smile, a kind heart and a quick wit. He made life fun and happy for everyone around him. As a little boy he discovered a passion for playing sports. He was a gifted athlete and played as a starter on Ysleta High School’s varsity basketball team as well as many city league teams throughout his life. He shared his love for sports with others by coaching youth girls softball and several basketball teams. He was a proud graduate of Ysleta High School from the class of 1972.

Sports became a calling for him, a vocation that he enjoyed so much that he pursued and received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Texas El Paso to teach physical education. He became Coach Munoz to the students, faculty, staff, parents and the community of the Ysleta Independent School District, who he enjoyed working with for 30 years. He was honored as Teacher of the Year for his passion for teaching and for his spirit that inspired his school community. Muskie believed in lifelong learning and enrolled in graduate school. He received a Master of Education degree from Lesley College based in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1990.

After his retirement, Muskie dedicated his time to his wife and family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Muskie remained a devoted follower of Christ and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher for the Saturday masses and volunteered for various church activities.

Even during his last days, Muskie remained humble and selfless, asking his family not to grieve for him, but rather to know that he would be praying for us! He had a heart of gold.

Arturo is preceded in death by his loving parents, Jose Antonio Muñoz, Paula Ledesma and stepdad David Flores, and his beautiful sister, Lucille Muñoz Rosales (Richard). Arturo is survived by his beloved wife, Lydia Muñoz; his children Connie Muñoz (Jahi Foster), Charlene Muñoz (Ryan Staton), Christopher Muñoz (Stephanie Martinez) and Roger Morales (Gabrielle); and 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren to honor and cherish his memory. Also leaving behind his brother, Rey Muñoz (Diana) and his sisters, Estella Mora (+Ruben), Terry Manriquez (Benny) and Liz Flores Zaborowski (Michael). He was very loved and will always be missed. May Arturo rest in the arms of the Lord.
