Arthur P. Kisselburg Sr., affectionately known as “Kip,” age 91, of Athens, New York, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. Born at Catskill Hospital, he was raised in Athens as the son of Paul and Marion (Harrington) Kisselburg. At sixteen he met the love of his life, Mary Craw, on a bus ride home from the Catskill movie theater. They married on April 26, 1953 and raised their five children on the same street where he had grown up.

Kip demonstrated a lifelong commitment to his country, community, and family. He served in the National Guard with Company A, 134th Armed Medical Battalion, 27th Infantry Division, New York National Guard from 1952 to 1958. His working life reflected the same steady dedication, beginning at Frangella Bros. in Ravena, then as a painter at Grumman/Olson in Athens until the plant closed in 1981, and finally at KAZ in Hudson until his retirement in 1998.

An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Athens Sportsman Club in the 1950s and the Potic Mountain Archery Club from 1957 to 1960. He enjoyed hunting and cherished time spent in the natural surroundings of his hometown. Kip also gave many years of service to his neighbors as a member of the W. H. Morton Volunteer Fire Department from 1968 to 1985. He took great pride in his home and in the community where he lived his entire life.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary (Craw) Kisselburg; their daughter, Wendy Risch; and his sisters, Madeline “Maggy” Kohler, Pauline (Phil) Mateer, and Lois (George) Kusisto. Arthur is survived by his children, Arthur (Tina) Kisselburg Jr., Bonnie Van Wie, Mary Lou Kisselburg, and Lori (Ray) Williams; his grandchildren, Megan Bratton, Kayla Sheil, Carleen Moore, Brittany Williams, Brandon Williams, Hope Williams, and Adriana Risch; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and the Athens community he proudly called home.
