Arthur James Wick

Arthur James Wick

Coldspring, TX

Arthur James Wick, known to all as Art, age 84, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Born on August 18, 1941, in Hallettsville to Arthur and Irene (Kouba) Wick, he was the oldest of five siblings. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic grade school and graduated from Hallettsville High School with the Class of 1959. Drafted into the United States Army, Art was stationed in LaPlata, Maryland, where he typed classified documents and delivered them to the Pentagon. After his military service, he returned to Houston and began a long career at W.R. Zanes, where he dedicated more than 44 years of loyal service before retiring.

In Houston, Art met the love of his life, Carl Jane “CJ” Ryan, while both were working at W.R. Zanes. They married and shared 48 loving years together, raising their son Brian and warmly embracing CJ’s daughter Melissa as his own. The couple lived in Pasadena and Baytown before settling in Coldspring. Art found joy in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, attending cookouts, and spending time with family and friends. With his easygoing nature and warm personality, he never met a stranger and had a gift for finding common ground with anyone he encountered.

Art will be remembered for his kindness, strong work ethic, and the welcoming spirit that made everyone around him feel at home. He especially cherished his role as “PoPaw” to his granddaughters Amber, Tiffany, Taylor “Maddie,” and Skyler, and his great-grandchildren Cameron, Maya, D’Von “Junior,” Maisyn, Emmie, Ryder, and Beckham. He took great pride in each of them and treasured every moment spent creating lasting family memories.

He is survived by his devoted wife CJ; son Brian Wick and wife Kat; grandchildren Amber Gill, Tiffany Lange and husband DJ, Taylor “Maddie” Wick, and Skyler Wick; great-grandchildren Maya and D’Von “Junior” Morris, Cameron Gill, Maisyn, Emmie, and Beckham Lange, and Ryder Bunch; brother Maurice and wife Rose Wick; sister Marilyn and husband Dwayne Drozd; sisters-in-law Diana Wick, Wanda “Micki” Brown, and Tammie Hoffeld; brother-in-law Tim Spanihel; and many extended family members and friends. Art was preceded in death by his daughter Melissa Clement Gill, parents Arthur and Irene Wick, brother Daniel Wick, sister Cindy Spanihel, and nephew Shawn Drozd. His memory of kindness, friendship, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
