Preserve forever →Arthur J. "Bret" Bretnall Jr.
Millville, NJ
Arthur J. “Bret” Bretnall Jr., 82, of Millville, New Jersey, passed away on February 22, 2026 after a brief hospital stay. Born on February 27, 1943, Bret was a lifelong learner whose curiosity and steady dedication shaped both his career and the many lives he touched. He graduated from the College of William & Mary and the Wharton School of Business, then applied his analytical mind to programming and special project work across several industries, including roles at Bank of New York and Hewlett Packard. In 1978 he joined the family business, where he provided more than 45 years of committed leadership. Deeply involved in the marine industry, he was an active member of the American Boat & Yacht Council and the National Marine Manufacturers Association, contributing to standards that strengthened the field he loved. He also served on several local boards, reflecting his quiet dedication to his community.
Bret’s faith was central to his life. He immersed himself in the churches he attended and remained a constant student of scripture. He found joy and peace in two other great passions—flying and boating—where his sharp mind and problem-solving nature met the challenges of sky and sea. Those who knew him valued his thoughtful approach, integrity, and the respect he earned in both his professional and personal circles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Cherwien; his daughter, Kimberley Carrell and her husband Eugene Carrell; his sons, Arthur Bretnall III and his wife Seren Morey, and Andrew Bretnall and his wife Francesca Poliseno; and six grandchildren. Bret will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a respected figure in the local business community and the marine industry.
