Arthur Calvin Porubsky
October 2, 1944— March 8, 2026
St. Johns, MI
Arthur Calvin “Art” Porubsky, a longtime resident of St. Johns, Michigan, died at his winter home in Leesburg, Florida, on March 8, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born on October 2, 1944, in Levering, Michigan, to Emil and Ethel (Searles) Porubsky, Art grew up in Ashley and graduated from Elsie High School with the Class of 1964. In January 1965 he began a career as a skilled tradesman with General Motors that spanned more than forty years. On June 19, 1965, he married Mary Katherine Wright at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston. Together they shared more than sixty years of marriage centered on family, faith, and hard work.
A lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, Art remained devoted to his Catholic faith. In retirement he and Mary spent their winters in Leesburg, Florida. He had a keen eye for treasures and was a familiar presence at auction sales and flea markets, especially those in Clare and at Burley Park. He took special pleasure in restoring toy tractors and reselling them. Music was another of his great loves; he enjoyed all genres, particularly country, and cherished artists such as Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, a passion he passed on to his children. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching football, and cheering faithfully for the Detroit Tigers.
Art is survived by his beloved wife Mary; his children Marty (Terri) Porubsky, Rick Porubsky, Angie (the late Darrell) Fahey, Kelly (Greg) Houlihan, and Jennifer Porubsky; grandchildren Charlie, Evan, and Derek Porubsky, Jace Rozankovich, and Molly, Sydney, and Gwen Houlihan; sisters-in-law Betty (Paul) Fernholz, Donna (Keith) Graham, Julie (the late Dan) Smith, and Sheila Wright; siblings Rose Dudash, Carol (Terry) Good, Cheryl Fisher, Toni (Terry) Ornelas, Robin (Eric) Gill, and Dan (Debra) Porubsky; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sons Craig, Terry, and Jeffrey Porubsky, his son-in-law Darrell Fahey, and his brother-in-law Joe Wright.
