Artelia Perry ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory - Wendell on Mar. 11, 2026.Artelia Bailey PerryAugust 23, 1934 – March 10, 2026Artelia "Telia" Bailey Perry transitioned to eternal life March 10, 2026 to be met by her beloved husband and parents.Born August 23, 1934 in Wake County NC, Telia was the only child of Norma Greene Bailey and Sadrious Eugene Bailey. She graduated from Zebulon High School; from Mars Hill College and then RPI, now VCU with a degree in Occupational Therapy.Telia married her high school sweetheart, Glenwood Hayes Perry on July 4, 1957 at Zebulon Baptist Church. She and Glen moved to Raleigh while he finished his Mechanical Engineering degree at NCSU and she was the department head of OT at Dorothea Dix Hospital.With Glen's commission as 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force, they moved around the country in the first years until settling in Hampton, VA. Telia worked as an OT at the VA in Hampton until retirement in 1998.In retirement, Telia and Glen returned to the Perry family farm in Zebulon, NC and enjoyed time with family, travel, community activities and membership in Zebulon Baptist Church.Telia was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, Mother, Mother In Law and Grandmother. Family was her true joy. All her life, she was a steadfast friend and enjoyed keeping up through letter writing, phone calls and especially Christmas cards. The list was epic!Telia is predeceased by her infant daughter Carole Lynn Perry and grandson, Robert Stuart Butler III. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Butler (Robert); son Alan Perry (Angela) and grandchildren; Laura Butler, Elise Perry and Evan Perry. She will forever be loved beyond measure.Service will be at Stricklands Funeral Home in Wendell NC on Saturday March 14. Visitation will be starting at 9:30 AM, service at11:00 AM followed by burial at Zebulon Town Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Zebulon Baptist Church Youth Fund or the charity of your choice.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
