Arthur Jacob Oster, 92, passed away on March 12, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 20, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave, Bismarck, with Pastor Bob Caranicas officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 pm Thursday, March 19, at Eastgate Funeral Home, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.
Burial will be held at 1:00 Friday at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Arthur (Art) was born on August 11, 1933, in Tappen, ND, the son of Gottlieb and Hertha Oster. He moved to Bismarck after he graduated from Tappen High School in 1951. Art was drafted and served in the Army from 1953–55.
He married Jeanette Matthiesen on June 10, 1956, in New Salem, ND, and they were married for 61 years. They had 5 children.
Art worked at many places, but mainly at Yegen Dairy, which became Bridgeman, then Land O Lakes, for over 50 years. Art was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
He loved the outdoors, from fishing, hunting, going to the lake, camping, and gardening ( he truly loved his flowers). He also loved to play cards and going to Beer and Hymns.
Art will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children: daughter, Marlys Berg (Jerry) of Monument, CO, and their children, Jamie Ramer (Dylan) of Peyton, CO, and Matthew Berg (Brittany) of Monument, CO; son, David Oster (Barb) of Forest Lake, MN, and their children, Michael Oster and Nathan Oster; daughter, Karen Oster of Bismarck, ND; son, Timothy Oster (Cori) of Medina, MN, and their children, Kate Richards (Marc) of Kansas City, MO, Megan Oster of Minneapolis, MN, and Elisabeth Oster of Chicago, IL; daughter, Vicky Schneider (Jeff) of Apple Valley, MN, and their children, Zachary Schneider (Jocelyn) of Bismarck, ND, and Jordan Schneider of Apple Valley, MN; 9 great-grandchildren: Landon, Gavin, and Kayley Ramer; Kaydyn and Liam Berg; Tyson and Hazel Ammons; Macklin Richards, and Theo Schneider; sisters, Lorraine Maw, Delores Dockter, Shirley Schulz, Deb (Randy) Diede; brother, Vernon Oster; sister-in-law, Delores Reis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette Oster; granddaughter, Kinsey Berg; brother, Harry Oster; sister, Irene Chimielewski; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck or the ND Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan.
