Levelland, TX

Armando Melendez Garcia passed away in Levelland, surrounded by the love of family and friends. A devoted father, brother, and loyal companion to many, he lived a full and vibrant life marked by hard work, generosity, and a joyful spirit.

Born in Mexico, Armando earned certification as an engineer and machinist. He owned and operated a successful candy store, fruit and grocery business in El Mercado Abran Gonzales Jimenez, Chihuahua, and managed a pecan orchard. Known locally as “Bruce Lee,” he also worked as an athletic trainer. Later, he became a farmer and rancher in Levelland. He cherished riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attending car shows and races, and took great pride in painting, cleaning, and detailing his vehicles. He loved listening to Mexican music, singing karaoke in restaurants and dance halls, and was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and beautiful singing voice.

Above all, Armando was defined by his kindness. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone, never meeting a stranger. He was an excellent father to his daughter Suky and a talented cook who filled his home with warmth and care. He shared many happy moments with his close friends Rogelio and Martha, and was especially dear to the staff at Taqueria Guadalajara, particularly Jesus and Claudio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cayetano and Lorenza Garcia de Melendez, his sister Maria Melendez, and his brothers Oscar Melendez and Guadalupe Melendez. Armando is survived by his daughter, Suky Yadira Melendez Melendez of Levelland; his former spouse, Mirta Melendez of Levelland; his sisters Cristina Melendez and Patricia Melendez of Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Simona (Mona) Melendez of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico; his brothers Emilio Melendez of Oregon, Pedro Melendez of Durango, Mexico, Jorge Melendez of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Jose (Pepe) Melendez of Pueblo, Mexico; and many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
