Arlie J. Thayer

Arlie J. Thayer

Orland Park, IL

Arlie J. Thayer, age 88, passed away after a life marked by quiet strength, deep devotion, and genuine care for those around him. He was the beloved husband of Judy Fulton for seven years and of the late Janet Thayer for 59 years. He was a loving father to John (Leila) Thayer, Margo (Steve) Powell, Tom (Haeyung) Thayer, Dan (Caitlin) Thayer, and Susanna (Jeff) Onak, and a cherished grandfather to Kevin, Michael, Connor (Adesuwa), Alexander, Henry, Jackson, and Trevor. He is also remembered fondly by his bonus family, Tom Fulton, Dave Fulton, Don Fulton, and their families.

Born on April 12, 1937, in Kearney, Nebraska, to Fred and Grace Thayer, Arlie grew up on a rural farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Elm Creek High School before earning a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska. He devoted 38 years of his career to Panduit Corporation, advancing from engineer to Vice President of Corporate Quality Assurance, where he was respected and well-liked by his colleagues.

Arlie possessed a kind and reliable spirit. He was deeply devoted to family and friends, always showing sincere interest and support in their lives and pursuits. He found joy in working with mechanical things—bicycles, tractors, cars, target shooting with old-fashioned muzzleloaders, and projects in his woodshop. In his later years, he found deep fulfillment in studying and embracing his Christian faith.

Arlie’s kindness, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
