Perkins, OK

Arlene Yvonne Calavan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on October 11, 1931, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was the cherished daughter of C.M. and Ruth Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 68 years, Wayman Calavan, and her brother, Lon Hawkins.

Arlene married the love of her life, Wayman Calavan, on July 28, 1951, in Okarche, Oklahoma. Together they raised six children: Mark and Kay Calavan, Cindy and Wade Cornelison, John and Lu Calavan, Linda and Mike Beaver, Matt and Katie Calavan, and Chris and Pam Calavan. Her family continued to grow with 19 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren who filled her life with joy. A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Arlene graduated from Okarche High School in 1949, later earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Connors State College and Northeastern State University in 1986. She taught in Oklahoma City and Shawnee public schools until her retirement in 1997.

A devoted farmer’s wife, Arlene worked tirelessly alongside Wayman to provide for their family. In 1975 they opened the Lucky 7 Cafe and Steak House, where she served as a warm and gracious hostess. She was actively involved in her church communities, serving as music director and Sunday School teacher at Warner First Baptist Church, as a Sunday School teacher and choir member at Blackburn Baptist Church, and later as a faithful member of Perkins First Baptist Church. Arlene tended beautiful gardens filled with vegetables and fruits, and her home was known for its hospitality and her exceptional cooking. She taught her children the values of hard work, deep love, and steadfast faith, living out the virtues celebrated in Proverbs 31.

Arlene will be remembered for her compassion, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to God and family. Her gentle spirit and the example she set will continue to guide and inspire her loved ones for generations to come.
