Aretta Levon McManus

Aretta Levon McManus, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on November 21, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, Aretta lived a full life centered on family, community, and quiet service. She dedicated many years to food service at Darlington Elementary School, where she formed lasting friendships and cared for generations of children. Her commitment to education continued through her long involvement with the Parent-Teacher Association, where she worked to support students and their families. She also worked for Bata Shoe Company and BJ’s Wholesale Club.

A devoted member of Victorious Faith Fellowship, Aretta found great joy in babysitting the children at church and volunteering at the local homeless shelter. Her warmth, generosity, and steady kindness left a deep impression on everyone she met. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed the calm focus of crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Aretta is survived by her sons, David and Jeffrey McManus; grandchildren Michael McManus, Josh Sullivan, Heather Roleck, Jeffrey McManus Jr., Christopher McManus, Brandon Sullivan, Ryan McManus, and Alecia McManus; and great-grandchildren Matthew Sullivan, Abby Burke, Victoria Sullivan, Noah Rhinehart, Caleb Sullivan, Mackenzie McManus, Kayla Roleck, Brianna Roleck, Aubrey Sullivan, and Everleigh Roleck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald McManus; her parents, Reid Carr and Elma Comer Thomas; her son, Edward McManus; her daughter, Deborah Robinette; and her siblings, Betty Coldiron and Edward Borise.

She will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering devotion to family and community.
