Anthony Japour
October 23, 1959— March 9, 2026
Miami Beach, FL
Dr. Anthony Japour passed away on March 11, 2026. A visionary physician and leader in global health, he dedicated his career to advancing research and care for those living with infectious diseases. With more than thirty years of distinguished service in medicine, diagnostics, and biotechnology, Anthony combined exceptional intelligence with deep compassion, leaving a lasting impact on the field and on everyone whose life he touched.
Born with a natural warmth and an insatiable curiosity, Anthony earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his training at Harvard Medical School, where he later served as Assistant Professor of Medicine with a subspecialty in infectious diseases. His many honors included the American Foundation for AIDS Research Scholar Award, grants from the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the NIH–NIAID K-11 Physician Scientist Award, and an NIH R01 grant.
Above all, Anthony was a devoted son to his late parents, James and Anna Jean Japour, and a loving brother to Mary Ann Japour and brother-in-law to Stuart Stafman. He took great pride and joy in his role as uncle to Laura and Joshua and great-uncle to Emma and Bradley, offering them steady guidance, encouragement, and unwavering love. His family remained the center of his heart throughout his life.
Anthony embraced the world with enthusiasm, cherishing thoughtful conversation, lasting friendships, travel, the arts, and new experiences. Those who knew him will remember his kind heart, his genuine laughter, his ability to listen deeply, and the way he made everyone around him feel truly seen and valued. He will be profoundly missed by all whose lives he enriched.
