Ryan, longtime resident of Bedford, NY, formerly of the Bronx, died on Wednesday, March 4 th, 2026, at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, NY.Anne was born on February 15 th, 1934, to William J. Rippon and Agnes (Kyne) Rippon. Originally from West Englewood, NJ, Anne moved to the North Bronx at age 10 and graduated from St. Philip Neri School on the Grand Concourse. She attended high school at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, from which she graduated in 1951. Anne went on to study at The College of New Rochelle, graduating from CNR with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1955. Anne earned a Master's Degree in Sociology from Fordham University, and obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology from The Catholic University of America.For most of her approximately 40-year professional career, Anne taught Sociology at her alma mater, The College of New Rochelle, from which she retired as an Associate Professor in 2000. Anne taught a variety of courses within her discipline, with a particular focus on race and ethnicity in America and criminology. In addition to CNR, Anne spent one year teaching at Mount St. Mary's College (n/k/a Mount St. Mary's University) in Los Angeles, CA, and taught for several years at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland (n/k/a Notre Dame of Maryland University) in Baltimore, Maryland, while in graduate school in Washington, D.C.Anne met her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas A. Ryan, when she was 10 years old. He predeceased her in October 2022. Anne and Tom moved to Bedford in 1971, where she resided until her death. They were supporters of various Bedford organizations, and were parishioners of St. Patrick's RC Church.Anne was the loving and cherished mother of Claire E. Ryan (Christopher Rubsamen) of Bedford, NY. She was the loving, devoted, and proud grandmother of Caitlin Rubsamen and Colin Rubsamen. Anne is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Dr. Mary Bernadette Rippon (Gregory Rusnak) of Greenville, SC; Catherine R. Bianchi (Martin Bianchi), of Rochester, NY; Dr. Maria Rippon (Brett Barclay) of Greenville, SC; Vicky Gannon, of Somers, NY; William Rippon (Teresa) of Carmel, NY; and Thomas Rippon, of North Augusta, SC; as well as her elevan grand-nieces and nephews, a great-grand-nephew, and her sister-in-law Susan (Ryan) Gannon of Somers, NY. Anne was predeceased by her parents, her aunt (Alice Kyne), her half-brother (William Rippon), and her brother (John Rippon).Anne was an accomplished vocalist and pianist who loved music. During high school she spent summers working for Community Concerts and the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts. Her love of music was passed on to her daughter and grandchildren, all of whom enjoy singing and playing musical instruments. She took great pleasure in attending their concerts and theatrical performances.Anne loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loyal and devoted friend to many.A voracious reader, Anne particularly enjoyed reading mysteries, historical fiction and books about American, English, and Irish history.
