Anne Cardillo ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by McCrery & Harra Funeral Home and Crematory - Concord Pike on Mar. 10, 2026.Anne Louise Cahill Cardillo, age 95, of Berryville, VA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, and Denville, NJ, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the Heritage Rehabilitation Hospital in Leesburg, VA.Anne ("with an e" as she was fond of pointing out) Louise Cahill Cardillo was born in Sayre, PA, on New Year's Day 1931 to Elizabeth and Edward Cahill. The third of four children, Anne grew up in the northern Pennsylvania railroad town of Sayre, in Bradford County.Anne graduated from Sayre High School near the top of the class of 1948. After graduation, she took a position with New York Telephone and in 1952 married Joseph James Cardillo. While her new husband was deployed with a U.S. Naval Carrier Group, Anne lived with his family in Rutherford, NJ, where she was employed with medical equipment manufacturer Becton Dickenson.After Joe's discharge from the Navy, they relocated from Virginia Beach, VA, to Carlstadt, NJ, and started a family. Anne became a homemaker and Mom to four sons, moving to Denville, NJ, in 1967. As the boys left home, Anne took a position at Nabisco Corporate Headquarters in East Hanover, NJ, as a food quality and quantification consultant. In 1994, she and Joe retired to Wilmington, DE.Anne loved to travel, particularly with a group made up of Joe's brothers Dave and Pete and their wives Peg and Mary. In her youth she loved figure skating, theater, dancing and music of all genres. Anne was a prodigious reader right up to her passing. In recent years, she looked forward to coffee out with friends, cards, and her regular dominoes games. She was an active parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Wilmington and was involved as an outreach volunteer for many years.In 2025, Anne moved to an assisted care apartment at English Meadows in Berryville, VA, near her sons Jim and Tom. She made close friendships with the residents and staff alike, creating dominoes and card-playing groups, and entertaining her friends with endless tales pulled from her amazing memory.Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Joe, in 2010 and her eldest son, Joseph Patrick Cardillo, in 2020; siblings James Cahill and Mary Jane Cashan; and brothers and sisters in-law David and Margaret Cardillo, Peter Cardillo, Mary and Michael Leck, Jane and Michael Scott and Sister Alice Cardillo.Anne is survived by her sons Jim Cardillo (Robin), Dave Cardillo (Dora) and Tom, grandchildren Nicole, Katie, Marah, James, Maxwell, and Thomas, seven great-grandchildren as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Anne is also survived by sister Elsie Robertson (David), sister-in-law Mary Plunkett Cardillo and brother and sister-in-law John and Delores Cardillo.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 23 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803). Interment at Delaware Veterans' Cemetery will follow.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Outreach in Wilmington.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
