Freeport – Anna M. (Nagel) Carroll, 100 of Freeport passed away peacefully at Liberty Village, Manor Court on March 6, 2026, with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born on July 21, 1925, to John and Edna (Wixon) Nagel in Rockford, Illinois. She married Warren J. Carroll on July 21, 1946 in Stockton, Illinois. He passed away on March 22, 2000 at home.Anna Carroll attended a one room schoolhouse in Pleasant Valley and graduated from Stockton High School. She was the last person alive from the class of 1943. She worked at Crum and Forster Insurance, Piggly Wiggly grocery, Mid City Grill, and Micro Switch. She retired in 1981, at which time she became a caregiver to her husband, Warren, after he suffered a stroke. A short time later her mother Edna, and sister Edna June moved into their Freeport home, where she cared for all three. Her mother passed in 1988, her husband passed in 2000. She cared for her sister until she moved to the nursing home. Much of her life was spent as a caregiver to those she loved.Anna began church as a young girl at the Pleasant Valley Church of God. After she was married and living in Freeport, she attended Bethany UCC and later became a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Freeport where she was involved in the Golden Agers, Pairs and Spares, the Women's Fellowship and served as a Lay person. She also was an active member with a Bible Study group for 27 years, where they met up until days before her death.She enjoyed playing cards with family, especially Pinochle. She also was the Queen of Farkle. She loved to play games with her Grandkids and Great Grandsons, shopping and eating lunch with her daughter, Mary; and having breakfast with Perry Mason. She was a strong person and never complained, even in times of pain. She was a faithful reader of the bible and read it every day. She loved to watch the rotating pictures in the frame on the wall of the nursing home room that displayed photos of her Grandkids and their families, and other pictures of her younger years. She enjoyed sharing stories of her life that are precious and will always be remembered. She was also incredibly adept at technology being able to navigate Facebook and Facetime with her grandchildren in her later years. Anna loved butterflies, and when the weather warms, will be remembered by a butterfly release in her honor.She is survived by her son, Mark (Linda) Carroll of Freeport; Sister, Edna June Nagel of Rockford; Grandaughter Michelle Carroll of Surprise, Arizona; Grandsons Jacob (Minh) Carroll and Jesse (Betsy) Blehinger both of Portland, Oregon; Great-Grandsons Warren Carroll and Reggie Blehinger of Portland. She is also survived by several cousins.She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws; her husband, Warren J. Carroll; daughter Mary Blehinger; son-in-law Lee Blehinger; aunts, uncles and cousins.Private family services will be held at Walker Mortuary who is assisting the family.Her final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established for St. John United Church of Christ and Unity Hospice of Rochelle.
