Anna Louise Jurt

December 12, 1923 March 5, 2026

Muncie, IN

Anna Louise Jurt passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at her home at Westminster Village in Muncie. She was born on December 12, 1923, on the family farm in Washington Township, Delaware County, near Gaston, Indiana, to Oscar and Elsie Jones.

Anna graduated from Gaston High School in 1941 and from Indiana Business College in Muncie. She worked as an office clerk at Franks Foundry before joining Warner Gear in 1951 as a clerk in the cost department, where she remained until her retirement in 1981.

A longtime member of High Street United Methodist Church since 1954, Anna lived her faith through decades of dedicated volunteer service. She gave her time at Ball State WIPB, Emens Auditorium, Minnetrista, the Muncie Eye Center, Ball Hospital and its gift shop, American Health Network, and the Muncie Public Library, where she read to the blind and delivered books to shut-ins. She also delivered flowers from her church to those unable to leave home. It was during one such delivery—an Easter lily to Grace Snell—that she met the love of her life, Grace’s son, Paul F. Jurt. They married on September 20, 1969, and shared many happy years traveling across the United States and Europe. They were active bowlers and golfers.

Anna was a member of the Women of the Moose, where she held several offices, and a fifty-year member of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Jurt; her parents, Oscar and Elsie Jones; her mother-in-law, Grace Snell; her brother, John Winford Jones; and her nephew-in-law, Steve Sharkey. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jane Sharkey, Joy King (Ron), John D. Jones (Wendy), Steve Jones (Keilla), and Paul Jones; nine great-nieces and nine great-nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and twelve great-great-nephews. She cherished time spent with family, especially the holidays at the home of Voyne and Elaine Smith, where she loved watching the children play. She also enjoyed following ballgames on television and looked forward to her weekly shopping trips to Walmart followed by her favorite meals of potato soup or beef and noodles.
