Preserve forever →Ann Schubert-Newbold
October 7, 1949— March 11, 2026
St. George, UT
Ann Newbold passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 76 following a long battle with chronic symptoms related to congestive heart disease. Born the third of six children to Claude Douglas Kirkland and Irene Argyle, she spent her early years in Centerville, Utah, raised her three boys in Bountiful, and lived her later years in St. George, where she found deep joy in the area’s scenery, wildlife, and natural beauty.
Curious by nature, Ann possessed a lifelong love of learning. Her wide-ranging interests included politics, law, astronomy, astrology, photography, reading, music, Native American culture, geology, and all things found in the outdoors. She approached life as a continual adventure, a spirit she inherited from her parents, who took the family on extensive road trips across the country during the 1950s and 1960s. In the years that followed, she and her loving companion Mark traveled nearly 250,000 miles in their Toyota 4Runner, much of it off-road to remote and seldom-seen places. Together they shared a profound appreciation for the beauty of nature. In 1996 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah, followed by a graduate certificate in gerontology in 1998. She spent many years managing an office for a law firm and worked as a paralegal on numerous cases involving older and senior clients.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rickey Newbold, her sister Claudia Mickelsen, her brothers Mark Kirkland and Boyd Kirkland, and one of her three sons, Chad Petersen. She is survived by her loving companion Mark McLachlan, her brother Brent Kirkland, her sister Marilyn Castellano, and her two sons Shawn Petersen and Jesse Kojima.
