December 19, 1935— March 14, 2026
Columbus, GA
Andrew Shepherd Mullin, Sr., 90, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Andrew—known affectionately since childhood as “Boots”—was born December 19, 1935, in Columbus, GA, son of the late Clarence L. Mullin, Jr. and Mabel Shepherd Mullin. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1955, where he served as student class president. He attended Georgia Tech on a golf scholarship, was captain of the 1959 Tech Golf Team, and a proud member of the Georgia Tech Letterman’s Club. He graduated with a degree in engineering and physics.
Boots went on to become Texas Division Sales Manager for the RC Cola Company in Dallas, Texas, and later the owner and operator of Four Lakes Golf Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Porter Chappell Sunday School Class.
He was the originator and developer of the “No–Backswing Swing of the Future” golf swing, featured as a cover story in Golf Magazine in 1976. His life was shaped by his love of the game of golf and the many friends, characters, and stories it brought into his world. One of his fondest memories remained Rex Franklin’s storm from behind win at the 1983 Screen Door Open. He was known among golfers for his encouraging words, generous spirit, and unwavering support for junior and next generation players.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Anna Green Morris Mullin. Above all, Boots was devoted to his family and took great pride in his sons and grandchildren
Survivors include: his brother, A. Lawton Mullin (Lynn) of Naples, FL; his sons, Andrew Shepherd Mullin, Jr. (Candace) of Columbus, Clarence Morris Mullin (Beth) of Columbus, GA, and Albert Henry Mullin (Rainer) of Columbus, GA; his nieces, Jennifer Mullin Kasten and Caldwell Mullin Ryan; and his grandchildren, Lawton, Lee, Avery, Wynn, Mary Stewart, and Henry.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Veronica Glover for her compassionate care and companionship to “Mr.Boots” over these last several years.
