Alva V. Silva

Alva V. Silva, 84, of Wheatfield, passed away on March 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 14, 1941, in Hebbronville, Texas, to Rafael and Petra (Cantu) Mendoza, Alva married the love of her life, Jose Silva Jr., on October 17, 1964, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Hammond, Indiana. She worked as an x-ray technician at St. Margaret’s Hospital and found great joy in crocheting and tending her garden.

Alva is survived by her children, Joe (Lola) Silva, Nelida (Tim) Smar, Ricardo (Betty) Silva, and Julie (Rob) Voigt, along with 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Adalberto and Cayetano.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose Silva Jr., her grandson Ricardo Silva Jr., her great-grandson Rocky McFarlin, and her siblings Francisco, Rafael, Arnoldo, Benjamin, Ismael, Eva, Ercilia, and Maria.
