Alton F. "Buddy" Kennedy Jr.

February 5, 1944 March 10, 2026

Lakeland, FL

Alton F. "Buddy" Kennedy, Jr., 82, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born on February 5, 1944, in Tampa, Florida, to Alton F. Kennedy, Sr., and Doris L. Kennedy (née Geiger), Buddy moved with his family to Lakeland in the 1950s as a young boy. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1962, attended Marion Military Institute in Alabama, served in the Lakeland Army Reserves, and later studied at Florida Southern College. For many years he owned and operated Central Glass Company in Lakeland, where his kindness and steady presence left a lasting impression on those around him.

A lifelong fisherman, Buddy cherished his time on Florida’s west coast, casting his line in the Everglades, Englewood, and Tampa Bay. He was a dedicated supporter of the Coastal Conservation Association and happily shared his love of fishing with his wife, children, grandchildren, and close friends, creating memories that will endure for generations.

Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sherry Kennedy (née Anderson); his sons, Eric N. Kennedy and Aaron J. Kennedy; his daughter, Amy E. Nichols (née Kennedy); and his five grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Layne, Sophia, and Lillie. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will forever remember his generosity and gentle spirit. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
