Marshalltown, IA
Allen Wayne Snyder, 67, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Born on June 6, 1958, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Gordon and Helen (Conrad) Snyder, Allen grew up attending Marshalltown Public Schools. He worked at PCA in Marshalltown and later at Mid-Iowa Community Action until May 2010, when health challenges forced his retirement. In July 2004, he and Kathy began their life together, sharing nearly twenty-two years filled with devotion and quiet strength. Following Allen’s accident in 2010, they faced a new reality together, with Kathy lovingly serving as his caregiver as they traveled to medical appointments and adapted to life’s changes.
Allen found simple joy in relaxing on their back deck, grilling, listening to his extensive CD collection featuring artists such as Bob Seger, Alan Jackson, The Doors, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings. He cherished time with his grandchildren, whom he always greeted with a handshake. An avid fisherman, he loved outings with his sons Jeff and Ross, and took pride in his skill with his hands, remodeling his own home and helping family with projects ranging from siding to kitchen countertops. He also contributed his talents by building a parade float for the Oktemberfest parade to support Iowa River Hospice.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon (Jan) Snyder and Helen (Bill) Curley, and his mother-in-law, Arlene Haloupek.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Wade Snyder, Jeff Pentz, Ross Pentz, and Audrey Pentz; his stepchildren, Tracy Pieters and Austin Richardson; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandsons; his siblings, Marian Buchanan, Virginia Warner, Gordon Snyder, Tim Newton, Cindy Cruzan, and Michelle Earley; and his beloved dogs, Bud and Duke. Their Thursday night Maid-Rite tradition and shared moments on the back deck, even through challenges like the 2018 tornado, remain among the family’s most treasured memories.
