Allen L. Payne

Allen L. Payne, 62, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at his home.

Born on July 5, 1963, in Monmouth, Allen was the son of Charles and Evelyn (Price) Payne. He was raised and educated in Kirkwood and Monmouth, graduating from Yorkwood High School in 1981. For several years he worked at Vickroy’s Furniture in Monmouth.

Allen had a quiet passion for repairing lawn mowers and small engines, and he found great pleasure in fishing and simply spending time with his family. He is remembered as a man who valued those close relationships above all.

He is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Sue Chard of Monmouth; his mother, Evelyn Hathaway of Galesburg; sisters Evelyn Barron of Monmouth, April Lucas of Burlington, Iowa, Penny Barry of Galesburg, and Bobbi Taylor of Burlington; brothers Raymond Price of Cairo, Georgia, Charles Payne of Kirkwood, and Jimmy and Tony Hathaway, both of Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Payne, and his stepfather, Allen Hathaway.
