Hobart, OK

Allen Ashley Moore passed away on March 5, 2026, in Bethany, Oklahoma, at the age of 91. Born on August 31, 1934, to Leonard Thomas and Juanita Boyd Moore, he spent his early years in Cooperton, Oklahoma, with his parents and younger brother, Bennie. In 1946, the family moved to the Toad Boyd farm, where Allen embraced farm life and was always ready to lend a hand with the chores. The Moores were longtime members of the Cooperton Christian Church, where Allen and his family were baptized together on Father’s Day in 1945. He graduated from Cooperton High School in 1952.

Allen had three daughters, Connie, Allison, and LaNette, from two previous marriages. In 1971, he married Betty Hilliard, the love of his life, and they shared 46 devoted years together until her passing in 2016. His career spanned farming, building custom homes, and serving as a federal building inspector. He later earned a B.S.Ed. and M.S.Ed. from Oklahoma State University and joined the faculty of Western Oklahoma Technology Center in Burns Flat, where he established the school’s first carpentry program. He retired from teaching in 1993, after which he and Betty launched their woodworking business, Cooperton Crafts. The couple enjoyed traveling together, especially with Bennie and Glenny, visiting 44 of the 50 United States. In 1995, they transferred their church membership to the First Christian Church in Hobart, where they remained faithful members for many years.

In January 2016, as their health declined, Allen and Betty moved from their farm to Southern Plaza, an independent living community. Betty passed away later that year. Allen remained at Southern Plaza for the next decade, where he lived a full life surrounded by many friends, including his special friend Joy Pauly, who brought him great happiness and companionship.

He is survived by his brother, Ben Moore and wife Glenny of Neosho, Missouri; his daughters, Connie Vetter of Cooperton, Oklahoma, Allison and Steve Horne of Ada, Oklahoma, and LaNette and Tobin Jackson of Oklahoma City; and his cherished step-family, including Robert and Janet Hilliard, Laura Wells, Misty Hilliard, Roger and Tammy Slife. He also held close three “bonus” daughters, Sharon Meinert, Carol Meinert, and Donna Jones. Allen was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.T. and Juanita Moore, his wife Betty Moore, step-daughter Linda Perry, stepsons Rick Hilliard and Danny Hilliard, great-grandson Rowdy Gray, and son-in-law Jerry Vetter.

Allen deeply loved his large family, his friends from Cooperton, Roosevelt, and Hobart, and the many friends and staff at Southern Plaza. A man of strong character, he was dearly loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
