Allan Harris ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by The Cremation Society of Iowa - Des Moines on Mar. 5, 2026.Allan L. Harris was born on August 20, 1949, and lived a life defined by devotion to his wife, his family, his craft, and his music. Those who knew Al knew a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and expressed his heart through song. After graduating from South Hamilton High School in 1967, Al's greatest decision came just one year later. On August 10, 1968, he married Deborah Kruck, beginning a partnership that would span 57 years. Their marriage was not only long but enduring - built on loyalty, shared dreams, perseverance, and love that matured beautifully with time. Deb was the love of his life, and together they built a family that became Al's greatest pride.Music was woven into every area of Al's life. A gifted musician, guitar player, songwriter, and recording artist, he had a rare ability to put feeling into melody and truth into lyrics. Whether performing, writing, or recording, he brought sincerity and heart to his craft. His music was not simply something he did, it was part of who he was.In addition to his artistic life, Al and his wife owned and operated resort properties in Northern Minnesota and built the highly respected Harris Painting and Wallcoverings in Boone. He approached his work the same way he approached life: with care, integrity, and attention to detail. Many homes and businesses bear the mark of his skilled hands and quiet professionalism.More than his accomplishments, Al will be remembered for his care and devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Deb, of Ames; his brother, Larry (Audrey) Harris of Sibley, Iowa; his son, David A. Harris (Jackie) of Cedar Rapids; his grandson, Thomas Harris (Paige); his great-granddaughter, Sage Harris; nieces, nephews, and several life long friends. Becoming a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him deep joy, and he treasured watching his family grow.Al died on March 3 rd and was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice (Bennett) Harris, and his brothers, Darrell and Doran.Al's legacy lives on in the music he created, the family he nurtured, and the example he set of steady, devoted love.Visitation to be held at Schroeder-Riemers Memorial in Boone, Iowa on March 17 th, beginning at 10:00AM and concluding with a prayer service beginning at 11:30.Private gravesides service arrangements will be announced at a later date.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
