Alison Britt Barron

Alison Britt Barron

Winston-Salem, NC

Alison Britt Barron, born on August 4, 1932, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, to E. Stanley and Vera Britt, passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 93 after living with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. She is remembered for her loving spirit, boundless sense of humor, and remarkable ability to connect with others. With her open personality and warm demeanor, Alison made friends of all ages and took genuine interest in everyone she met, remembering names from grocery clerks to corporate executives.

Raised with the love of devoted parents and later her younger sister Vera, Alison graduated as valedictorian from Murfreesboro High School in 1950. She went on to attend Salem College in Winston-Salem, where she majored in English, excelled at writing, and formed lifelong friendships. After graduating in 1954, she worked as a copywriter in the advertising department at WSJS radio. In 1955 she met the love of her life, Richard C. Barron, and they married in April 1956. Their only child, Richard M. Barron, was born in 1957.

Alison devoted herself to raising her son and became deeply involved in her community through Centenary United Methodist Church and various volunteer efforts. She was an avid gardener, creating beautiful plantings at the family’s Wendover Circle home, which remained her beloved haven until 2023. She enjoyed running, collecting art, traveling with her husband to England, Ireland, and Europe, and hosting gatherings for friends and neighbors. She and Dick were longtime fixtures at the YMCA and supported many local causes, including Habitat for Humanity and WFDD. Alison faced later years with courage, moving to Salemtowne in 2023 after her husband’s death in 2022.

She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Rachel, who considered Alison a second mother; her sister Vera Outland and brother-in-law Bob of Rich Square; and four nephews: Robert B. Outland III of Rich Square, Wright Outland of Clemmons, and Brent and Keith Barron of Myrtle Beach.
