Alice Zimpel ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Minnesota (First Memorial Funeral Chapel) - Duluth on Mar. 16, 2026.Alice (Swan) Zimpel, 86, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Viewcrest Health Center. She was born in Ringsted, IA on October 30, 1939, as the fourth daughter to Otto and Hazel (Kehoe) Swan.Her family moved to Duluth when Alice was three years old along with her older sisters Melva, Irene, and Beulah. Alice graduated from Denfeld High School in 1957 and went on to work at Kelly Duluth Hardware store where she met and worked with her future husband Wilbert (Bill) Zimpel.She married Wilbert (Bill) Zimpel on July 3, 1965, and welcomed a family of Bill's kids, Karol, Barb, Berta, Patty and Bev. Alice and Bill went on to welcome their daughter, Elizabeth, and their son, Roger.Alice's employment years included bookkeeping work at Twin Ports 7-Up, Edgell Communications, and Gateway Distributing, selling Avon, cleaning at Diamond Tool & Horseshoe Co. and retired from Security Jewelers. In her retirement, she held a part time parking booth position with Oneida in downtown Duluth at several parking lots and ramps.Alice was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in West Duluth, and she was also an active volunteer for many years at St. James Catholic school while her granddaughters Michaela & Maria were in attendance.Alice was an active participant in bowling leagues in her younger years. She was a big music lover and went to music in the parks each summer at Chester Bowl and Billings Park, along with enjoying local bands and concerts. She always had fun traveling which included Florida, the Great Lakes Circle Tour, a road trip to California, visiting her son in Colorado, and especially going to see her sister Melva and her family on the Oregon coast. She had many memories camping for 26 years at Timberline Campground in Sturgeon Lake. Alice also enjoyed senior bingo in her retirement at Harrison Community Club on Mondays with her many friends.Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; and her sisters, Melva Hessevick, Irene Lundahl and Beulah Swan. Bill's daughters, Barb Bergson, Berta Menor and Patty Carlson.Alice is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Mike) Ossanna, her son Roger Zimpel, granddaughters, Michaela and Maria Ossanna, Bill's daughters Karol (Ron) Woldengen and Bev (Karl) Tarnowski, and her brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Lundahl. She also leaves behind several loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews andcountless friends including lifelong friend, Connie Johnson, and Joyce Jasper for all your many rides to Monday bingo.Special thank you for all the care and love given to Mom in her final months by the care teams at Viewcrest Health Center and Essentia Health Hospice.Alice was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, and a devoted and caring friend, and she will be forever missed and loved by her family and friends.
